"The Stannington Players were formed out of a play reading group set up after the close of the Second World War in 1945. In the early days it's members met in peoples houses, where plays were read for pleasure. The group was so successful and popular amongst the people of Stannington and Sheffield, that it was decided to establish a full, dramatic society to allow local people to participate in drama, to perform for the entertainment of others and to provide good entertainment at a reasonable and affordable cost"
